Evidence Based Coaching

Research informs the plan. Your response guides the progression.

I combine my Exercise Science education, coaching experience and relevant research with your goals, preferences and response to training. Evidence based coaching means explaining why an exercise belongs in your plan and adjusting when your needs change.

Assess before progressing

I consider movement skills, training experience, development, sport demands and your schedule. I teach technique, select an appropriate starting point and progress resistance and complexity deliberately.

Train the person as well as the sport

Youth training builds a broad physical foundation. Sport demands help set priorities, while individual readiness determines the exercises and workload. Active adults also need strength and movement capacity for everyday tasks and recreation.

Respect training load and recovery

Team practice, competitions, school, sleep and other activity all affect readiness. I consider the complete schedule and communicate with athletes and parents rather than treating every session as an isolated workout.

Performance and injury risk

Strength, balance, coordination and movement control support physical preparation. Appropriate training aims to address modifiable injury risks, but cannot guarantee an injury free season. I do not diagnose injuries or provide medical rehabilitation. Pain and return to sport decisions require an appropriate health professional.

Track progress honestly

I use assessments, observations and reassessment to update priorities. My Athlete Development Grade remains a working pilot framework, not a scientifically validated diagnostic score. Preparation habits are tracked separately.
